The Goldstone Family Bursary         Competition 2018

Funded by David, a Vice-President of the trust, Cyril and Sally Goldstone, two winners of the best legal essay will win £1000 per annum for three years. 

Open to all LEDLET alumnus that have taken part in any of our previous summer schemes. 


  1. Opening date: 21st December 2017.

  2. Closing date: 28th February 2018.

  3. Open to LEDLET Alumni and Alumnae from any year.

  4. Entrants to be intending to/ studying for a degree at university on any course, with the intention of pursuing a legal career.

  5. There will be 2 bursaries awarded at a total of 3,000.

  6. The winners are to be awarded a total bursary of £3000 to be paid annually each year of university in instalments of £1000; or in one lump sum if the winner is in the last year of university; or 2 instalments of £1,500 p.a. for a winner in their second year of university.

  7. Winners to provide proof of attendance at their university prior to receipt of monies.

  8. Winners undertake to become a LEDLET ambassador providing such reasonable assistance as requested by the trustees from time to time. Failure to assist the trustees in this way could lead to termination of payments.

  9. Entrant to email signed and dated second page of this document confirming the essay is all their own work and that they agree to abide by the rules.

  10. Essay to be in English with a word count of 2000 not including references.

  11. Typed document to be page numbered and without any reference/s that would identify the entrant on any page.

  12. The essay should be submitted by email to the LEDLET secretary at: by midnight on the closing date.

  13. The judging panel to be confirmed at a later date.

  14. Judges decision is final.

  15. LEDLET reserves the right not to award the bursaries if there are insufficient entries or entries are not of a high enough standard.

  16. Any entrant found guilty of plagiarism will be reported to their university.

  17. Failure to comply with the rules invalidates the entry.

  18. Winners to be notified by 11th May 2018.

  19. Winners to be available for presentation during the Summer Scheme July 2018; and to provide David Goldstone with updates on their university/career progress.
