2020 Summer Scheme

Due to COVID-19 the summer scheme was moved online, bringing together everyone from the London and Cardiff schemes to participate in a host of online talks and activities. The scheme ran from 27-31 July, with 24 students participating from across Wales.

The week saw panel talks from solicitors and barristers from both England and Wales about what their roles entailed. The students were fortunate to hear from judges from a variety of courts, including Sir Clive Lewis from the High Court, HHJ Wendy Joseph from the Crown Court, Justice Nerys Jefford  from the High Court,  Lady Justice Nicola Davies from the Court of Appeal, and Lord Lloyd Jones, Justice of the Supreme Court. The scheme also offered students the opportunity to hear from the Lord Chancellor, Robert Buckland QC.

The students also participated in interactive sessions, including mooting, statutory interpretation and a plea in mitigation, all judged and assessed by practicing barristers, solicitors and judges. The end of the week saw dedicated session on university life, applications and talks from previous alumni, setting the students in good stead for life after the scheme!

The scheme was a massive success! While we would have loved to have met all of the students in person, they were all enthusiastic and conscientious and embraced the virtual scheme - and we look forward to meeting them in the future at one of our alumni events.

The trustees would like to offer a particular thank you to each of the solicitors, barristers, judges, professors and the like for participating in this years scheme. It would not have been possible without your support and participation - Thank you!
